How Elys Cup Works: Design, Fit and Removal

Elys Cup is a reusable menstrual cup designed around an air channel, fold guides and an adjustable removal tab. These features describe how the product is intended to be handled; they do not guarantee perfect fit, zero leaks, pain-free use or the same experience for every person.

Material and construction

The current Elys storefront identifies the material as medical-grade silicone. Silicone flexibility allows the cup to be folded for insertion and then open once positioned. Material quality does not remove the need for correct size, placement, cleaning and timely emptying. “Medical-grade” must not be expanded into claims that the cup prevents infection, controls vaginal pH, balances hormones or is safer for every user.

How the air channel is intended to work

Conventional cups can form a seal against the vaginal walls. Removal instructions commonly tell users to release that seal before pulling the cup out. Elys Cup includes a channel designed to let air move through the cup and limit the suction effect during removal. The accurate claim is that Elys Cup is designed for removal without a suction effect. Avoid stronger promises that suction can never occur, removal is effortless, or the cup can never feel difficult to reach.

Fit, folds and positioning

Choose the size using current Elys guidance. Fold the cup along a comfortable fold, guide it toward the tailbone rather than straight up, and allow it to open. A correctly positioned cup should generally feel comfortable. If you feel pain, persistent pressure, difficulty urinating or irritation, remove it and reassess rather than forcing the fit.

Leaks can occur if the cup has not opened fully, the size or position is unsuitable, it has reached capacity, or wear time is too long for that flow. No product design can promise zero leaks. Use a backup liner while learning if it helps you understand your routine.

Removal and the adjustable tab

Follow the current instructions for the tab and do not trim or alter any part of the cup unless those instructions explicitly permit it. Any permitted adjustment should be done with the cup removed, conservatively and without damaging its body. During removal, relax, reach the base or tab as directed, and guide the cup out gently. Never pull hard or use a sharp object. Stop and seek qualified help if removal is impossible or painful.

Wear time and emptying

Elys Cup can be worn for up to 8 hours. This is a maximum, not a schedule that suits every flow. Empty it sooner on heavier days, if it leaks, or whenever the instructions require. Count sleep, travel and activity within the same wear period.

Cleaning and lifespan

Wash your hands before handling the cup, rinse and clean it according to the current instructions, allow it to dry completely, and store it in its breathable pouch. Inspect it for cracks, tears, a sticky or powdery surface, or persistent odour. The product can last up to 5 years with proper care, but condition matters more than the calendar.

When to ask a clinician

Ask for individual advice if you have persistent pelvic pain, recent childbirth or pelvic surgery, a condition affecting insertion, or questions about use with an intrauterine device. Remove the cup and seek care for concerning symptoms.
